JANG's Volvo

This infamous car of my history is a 1994 Volvo 850 Turbo wagon. It's powered by an inline 5-cylinder transverse-mounted engine driving the front wheels. It features Volvo's high-pressure turbo unit (~8psi). This particular car has all options available for its year except for 3rd row seating. This includes stiff swaybars, full leather interior with fully adjustable front seats, each with a 3-person memory (push 1 button and the seat returns to your favorite position & configuration). It has a power moonroof/sunroof, AM/FM cassette, independent left/right/front/rear seat warmers, traction control, and 3 transmission shift profiles. The rear seats fold down absolutely flat for tremendous cargo space.

The fastest I've gone in this car to date was 135mph (was still accelerating smoothly, just didn't have any more safe road ahead). It should top out around 155-160mph. Stock 0-60 time is 7.4secs.

Modifications

To date, I haven't done much. The car has an ipd cat-back 2.5" sport exhaust system (an actual low backpressure system, not a ricerocket/fart tube), and Weapon-R conical air filter. I had tried the full Weapon-R system with ram air system and heat shield, but found this to be absolute garbage, robbing nearly 1/4 second from me on the standing 1/4 mile.

Tires are Firestone Potenza RE730 tires measuring 225/50ZR15 (20mm wider than stock, soft compound, Z rated for 149mph). I've switched to an ipd front grille, removed one horn and moved the other under the bumper, and Dremelled out the radiator housing for improved airflow. I've also installed some custom insulation on the intercooler output pipe.

For looks, I've done a little color matching under the hood and in the driver's compartment. Window tint is on the "want" list for sure.

Future

I plan to eventually get a custom turbo downpipe installed, along with a Corvette high-flow cat. Then I'll be ready for my ipd/TME ECU upgrade, a very slight lowering job, and some gunmetal or black wheels and slotted brake rotors. I'll also get a re-tuned torque converter and have the intake manifold and turbo housing ported & polished.
